From the first Assises in 1984, ATLAS made clear
its intention to set up a centre for translators.
The Collège International des Traducteurs
Littéraires opened in Arles in 1987, on the model of the
first translators' college, set up in Straelen, Germany, by
the translator Elmar Tophoven.
